We’ve all been sick and had to go to the office – it’s not fun. Sneezing and headaches can make every task feel that much more difficult, and exhaustion certainly doesn’t go well with meetings and conference calls. If you have a sick coworker who looks like he or she could use some cheering up, consider these tips:
Make them a care package
Care packages don’t have to come in the mail, you can simply set one on your colleague’s desks! While putting one together, consider what symptoms they are experiencing. Is their nose red and dry from sneezing? Maybe they’re dealing with aches and pains from the flu. Keep these in mind when searching for care package items. A box of tissues, container of hand sanitizer and some bags of lemon honey tea are sure to be appreciated. Maybe they’ve got these products under control and you’d rather offer them some kind of treat. Candy and fruit are great options – they’ll cheer up just about anyone. These low-cost items can help make their day a little more bearable, and they’ll be thankful that you were so thoughtful!
Offer to adapt
Does your coworker have a hoarse voice? This condition can be both uncomfortable and inconvenient. If you are scheduled to have a conference call with your sick colleague and a client, offer to take charge of the call yourself. This way you can do all the talking while your coworker rests his or her voice. If necessary, meet up beforehand to cover anything you need to know before the call. Let the client know you will be leading the conversation but that your colleague is also there and unable to speak. He or she should understand. You could also add a screen component to the call that will allow your hoarse-voiced coworker to take part in the conversation via chat instead of out loud.
Give a get well card
You may not be super close with someone at the office but still want to give them your best. To do so, hand him or her a get well card. Brookhollow offers a large selection, including embossed cards, that are appropriate for everyone. Consider the classic “Get Well Flourish Card” in white and gold for an elegant, simple greeting. Looking for something with more pizzazz? The “Color Block Get Well Card” comes in lime green, black and yellow and is sure to brighten your sick coworker’s desk and their day.
