3 people who would love to receive a letter

Letter writing is an art form that is losing some enthusiasts because of the digital revolution. After all, why send a letter that will take days to reach the recipient when you could send a chat message that reaches them in a millisecond? I’ll tell you why: Receiving a letter is like getting a present. It’s a physical thing that you can touch and keep, and it takes more time and thought than an email. Here are three people who might appreciate a real letter:

Your grandparents
Wartime was a very popular time for letter writing. Soldiers overseas would write their sweethearts back home during World War l, World War ll and the Vietnam War. Video chatting wasn’t invented yet, and neither was the Internet, so letters were the only way for family and friends to communicate to their loved ones in the armed forces. Your grandparents and parents may have fond memories of receiving and sending letters. Instead of sending them a few brief text messages or an email detailing your week, break out some stationery and stamps, or even a postcard, and send them a letter. Handwriting makes this method of communication much more personal than any font on the computer could. The letter recipient may even write back, returning the surprise.

Younger kids
When someone is learning a skill, they appreciate any chance to practice and show how they are doing. Young children who are in kindergarten and elementary school spend a lot of time practicing their writing skills. If you have a cousin, godchild, niece or nephew who is at that age, write them a letter. They’ll love receiving mail and being able to write a few sentences about their day or something they’re doing in school. You’ll be helping them practice their writing and making their day.

Pen pals
Want to learn about a place far away? Consider having a pen pal. There are many websites that help set up pen pals across the world.  Exchange information and start writing your first card! It’s super interesting to receive mail from all over the world. What a great way to learn about other people and cultures. You can start quite the collection of interesting stamps and cards when you have a pen pal. You’ll receive fun messages and cool pictures to collect as you go. Don’t forget to send your pen pal  a birthday card!
