Important things to remember about business greeting cards

February 20, 2015

Sending business greeting cards is not a frivolous idea, it can really grow your company's reputation and client base. Here are some things to keep in mind when choosing and sending business greeting cards:

Get personal
It can be difficult to really get to know all of your customers and clients. Try your best to personalize the cards you send to the recipient. If they are Jewish, send a Hanukkah card; for Christians, use a Christmas design. For many companies this is not an option because they do not interact with the recipient enough to know what they like and dislike, or the company may be too large to fully get to know its entire client base. In this case, try to personalize the cards to your business. Are you a real estate company? Look for a design with a beautiful home on the front. Maybe you run a beauty salon and are looking for a holiday card that features Santa in a barber chair or a snowman in a tanning bed. Your greeting card will be much more memorable if it is unique and pertains to what your company does.

Mail the cards as soon as possible
Around any holiday that involves gifts (Christmas, Hanukkah, Easter, Valentine's Day), the postal service has an influx of deliveries. Give the post office a break and remove some pressure from your to-do list by sending cards two weeks in advance to avoid late delivery and mail room mix-ups.

Include a signature
Give your business greeting cards a personal touch by signing them by hand. If you can, add a short note including your well wishes. If you know the recipient, take the time to include a short story about something you've done together or a similar interest or relevant joke. If you don't know them well, stick to something generic like "Happy Holidays" or "Wishing you the best in the New Year." The fact that you took the time to write it by hand is what really matters.

Cards are an investment
When you decide to send Christmas cards for clients or business thank you cards, you are participating in positive customer outreach. Not only are you showing that you are thoughtful and value your customers, clients and colleagues, you are also gaining loyal followers and partnerships. The money you spend on purchasing cards and stamps, as well as the time and effort put into picking out the perfect design and putting it all together, is an investment in your business's future.
