Build work friendships with handwritten notes

September 22, 2014

It’s no secret that most people spend more time at the office than they do at home. In order to make the most of that time at work, it’s important to let your co-workers know that you value their support and friendships. One of the simplest and most effective ways of connecting with professionals in your office is through handwritten thank you cards. Here are some instances when a quick note can have a positive impact on your relationship with others:

Thank you for a birthday lunch or gift
Did your co-worker buy you lunch or get you a gift to celebrate your birthday? If so, those kind acts should never go unnoticed. Even if you already gave them a verbal thank you, follow it up with a handwritten thank you card. Just a few short sentences can go a long way in showing that person how much you appreciate their gesture.

Thank you for emotional support
Everyone goes through their fair share of issues in the workplace, and it’s always nice to have someone to lean on and talk to when times get tough. Emotional support isn’t always easy to come across, and it’s important to recognize others when they’re helping you out. Whether they offered you advice on how to deal with a difficult client or were there to talk to you when you had a tough conversation with your boss, they deserve a thank you.

Thank you for a raise or promotion
If your supervisor just gave you a raise or a promotion at work, let them know how grateful you are for the opportunity. Deliver a handwritten thank you note sharing your appreciativeness. Be sure to include a sentence or two about how their support has helped to build your professional career and that their help is valued.
