From an anniversary to a graduation, an engagement and even for the little things, there are plenty of reasons to send a congratulatory greeting card. Here are a few occasions when I send one:
A marriage or an engagement
Your cousin Timmy announced he and his long-time girlfriend Shelby are engaged. A wedding is a wonderful reason to send a congratulations card to welcome your new relative or friend into the family or group.
The birth of a baby
When you receive a birth announcement in the mail it is customary to send a congratulations card to the parents. You can also do this if you don't receive a birth announcement but would still like to wish the new family well.
A graduation
Whether it's kindergarten, high school or a master's program, when someone has finished schooling they deserve some celebration. School can be long and difficult and there is a lot of work put in, so why not tell the new graduate how proud you are of them and that you send them good luck on their job hunt or on future endeavors? Add an extra special touch by giving them some life advice for the next stage of their journey. Use a quote from your favorite author of philosopher or even a piece of knowledge that someone passed to you when you were their age. They'll appreciate the thoughtful card and shared wisdom for years to come.
A job promotion
When a person gets promoted at work it's usually because they have put in a lot of effort to get there. That deserves congratulations. If you hear a friend, family member or co-worker has finally received the promotion they have been striving toward, it is a wonderful idea to send them a congratulatory greeting card. Let them know you are happy for them and that they have earned it.
An anniversary
There are many reasons to celebrate an anniversary. Some people send congratulations cards to their employees for reaching a major milestone at work, like 10 years with the company. Others send a card marking a special event, like a trip they took together or a wedding anniversary.
An award
As an employer, you have a great opportunity to send congratulatory cards when your staff members do really well. If they win employee-of-the-month, tell them you appreciate their hard work with a greeting card. When someone you care about earns an award for excellence, give them a congratulations card.
To celebrate the small things
You don't need a big event just to send a greeting card. Do you have a friend who just adopted her first pet? Send her your congratulations! Has your dad been working to lose weight and done a really great job in his first month? Tell him you are proud and want to support him along his journey with a congratulations card. Maybe you have a grandchild and who is attending the first day of kindergarten. Share your pride in their child-raising and parenting skills by congratulating your son or daughter and their significant other with a card.
