Building a Culture of Employee Appreciation

Think you know what makes your employees feel appreciated? Think again. According to a recent stu9332f8b3-ed57-4660-97a9-ccd892131ea2(2)dy by the International Association of Administrative Professionals and OfficeTeam, there is often a disconnect between the type of appreciation employees want and what managers think they want.

Managers responding to the survey ranked promotions and cash bonuses as the two most effective ways
of recognizing employee accomplishments, but workers said they preferred an in-person thank-you or
having a job well done reported to senior management. In other words, though a decent bonus will always be a highly coveted form of recognition, employers often underestimate the degree to which workers value kind words delivered face to face.2685_BBC6080Bmn

A great way to thank employees is by writing a thoughtful note in a business thank you card or an achievement card to thank them for their hard work or a job well done. Its simple, cost-effective and will leave a lasting impression.

Made in the USA

I was recently reading an article on MSN about how manufacturing of products is slowly moving oversees
and how very few things these days are made in the USA. This has obviously been more evident in tSmall Patriotic Christmas Cardhe
past couple years as jobs dwindle and companies look for most cost effective ways to produce their products.

Brookhollow is proud to state that all of our business greeting cards, promotional calendars and business Christmas cards are indeed manufactured in the USA. We are happy to employee over 100 hard working men and women who work diligently to create all of our unique greeting cards at the highest of quality.

Thank you to our employees for your hard work and thank you to our customers for supporting our company. We are proud to support the USA economy.

Let the Madness Begin

Spring is right around the corner and with it comes another office ritual, the NCAA basketball tournament pool.  In the coming weeks there will be much written and discussed about the loss of productivity in the work place, with some experts estimating the cost to employers in the billions of dollars.

However, if your office is one of the many that condones this activity then use it as a way to boost NCAA_Basketball_Big_342e
employee morale.  The best way to do this is to get everybody involved.  The truth is, not everybody in the office is an avid basketball fan and as eager as alpha-male Bob to fill out the typical bracket which calls for picking teams all the way to the championship game.  A couple ways to make everybody feel they have a chance against "Joe Gambler" is to mix it up a bit.  Here are a couple unique ways to do just that:

• Pair up a fan with a non-fan and have them pick together as a team

• Give additional points for correct "upset" picks which can make for a more random and fun selection process.

• Randomly draw an equal number of teams for each participant to follow.

• Make it so everybody must pick at least one team of every seed to win in the first round.

The debate on whether office pools are a good or bad thing for company culture will battle on.  However, a good rule to remember if your company does partake in the madness is to try and include everyone.  And give it your own unique twist.  Who knows, maybe some bonding and camaraderie amongst employees can give the company morale a little end of the quarter boost.

Team Building Idea - Warm fuzzies for all!

Team builders....whether you love 'em or hate em' you have to admit that when executed properly, they work.

Personally, i have a love/hate relationship with them. Upon learning I'm going to be part of a team builder a range of emotions start to flood me. I start to feel nervous (what will they have me do?), excited (yay! something new) and anxious (what if I look like a fool?). But upon completion I always take away something from the experience....learning something about myself, others or a great sense of team spirit.

A2862a76-0203-4440-8b4e-838343024cfe
A few weeks back my boss notified notified our team that we would be participating in a team builder. We
were given a few days notice and were instructed to write down a list of qualities we brought to the team. Our whole department was nervous about what we were going to do with this wonderful list once we got together for the team builder.

The day of the team builder came and we gathered in a conference room sitting in a circle facing each other. We then were told we would go one by one and read what we thought we brought to the team. Then each of our peers would state what they thought we brought the team. The previous person would right down all the nice things people were saying about you so that you could focus on what people were saying and also have a little keepsake to reference on days when you really could use a pick me up.

It was really refreshing to hear what everyone had to say and I learned things about myself as well as my co-workers. We all felt closer after the team-builder and all left feeling good about ourselves.

So next time you're looking for a team-builder try this one. Its simple, thoughtful and it works....

And there's your dose of warm-fuzzies for this Friday! Have a great weekend!
